Village Hall Announcements
Announcements by the village hall.
The good news is that the multisports will be open as from Saturday. The
Village Hall Committee is sending around a letter (attached) to everyone in
the village explaining the cost and sport allocations.
There are 3 main clubs starting to be formed and residents are encouraged to
go along to the initial practice sessions on the multisports where there
will be more information on future format of the club. The dates are as
follows:
Netball - Sunday 10.00 am 5th June
Basketball - Sunday 12.00pm 5th June
5 a-side - Monday 6th June 6.30pm
Tennis - Thursday 9th June 6.00
The Village Hall committee gave the go ahead for the proposed Multisport facility to besituated next to the playground. It is hoped that work can begin before Xmas with an opening sometime in the Spring. This hasd been made possible by some fantastic fundraising, grants from Church Piece, the Parish Council and North Wiltshire District Council.
Here is a photograph of an identical facility in Crudwell.
The Village Hall Committee has not succeeded in trying to create a skateboarding area next to the Hall.
The Hall Committee is not able to take on the level of liability required by our insurance company, nor the minimun insurance premium of £2500 a year.
In the recent village survey, the top requirement was for a Multi- Use Games Area, based on two tennis courts with one of them marked out for five-a-side football, basketball and netball. We now have planning permission for this, and work to raise the money and get it built are progressing steadily. This facility will add much to sporting opportunities on the Rec.
Many organised groups use the Recreation Ground, such as youngsters from the School, children attending the Benger Bears Playgroup, and young members of the Cricket Club.
In addition, many, many other people and groups use the area for exercise, for enjoyment, for play, or for other leisure pursuits.
All of these people are being adversely affected by the thoughtlessness of a few dog owners who let their pets run freely around the Recreation Ground, and who do not collect up any mess left behind.
